Greenmeadows welcomes the Governor General on 27 June

It was an absolute honour for our school to be selected by the Sir Peter Blake Trust to host His Excellency the Governor General, Sir Jerry Mateparae on Friday 27 July.  His Excellency heads the Dream Team, a group of great NZ Leaders who visit 300 schools across NZ to inspire young leaders.  The theme for this year was “Make it Happen”, inspiring Kiwi kids to turn their dreams into reality.  He spent over an hour talking to our student leadership team, encouraging them to talk about their dreams for themselves and for New Zealand as a country.   Our students were superb – I was so proud of them.  I was even prouder to read the message placed on the Governor Generals Facebook page:

“I have just spent an hour with the student leaders of Greenmeadows Intermediate in Manurewa.  I was met by student leaders Ursula Te Wharau and John Chen and escorted to the school library where I met the other school leaders and class ambassadors.  The students were neat to talk to and listen to.  They have great ambitions for themselves and New Zealand.  The school’s principal and staff are doing a fantastic job instilling a sense of pride and commitment in their children.  Values seem to be an important part of what the school represents.  It was encouraging to hear that most of the children counted their parents as their “heroes”.  With young people like this in New Zealand, we can have great optimism for our future!”
