“I have just spent an hour with the student leaders of Greenmeadows Intermediate in Manurewa. I was met by student leaders Ursula Te Wharau and John Chen and escorted to the school library where I met the other school leaders and class ambassadors. The students were neat to talk to and listen to. They have great ambitions for themselves and New Zealand. The school’s principal and staff are doing a fantastic job instilling a sense of pride and commitment in their children. Values seem to be an important part of what the school represents. It was encouraging to hear that most of the children counted their parents as their “heroes”. With young people like this in New Zealand, we can have great optimism for our future!”
